NEWS ROUNDUP

INVESTMENT: Crusoe to invest $200 million in Brighton facility for modular AI data centers. Crusoe plans to invest more than $200 million in a 352,000-SF advanced manufacturing facility in Brighton, Colorado, where it will produce prefabricated modular AI data centers called Crusoe Spark.

DEVELOPMENT: Comstock launches data center platform. Comstock Holding Companies has officially launched its Data Center Platform through two separate arrangements with strategic partners to pursue large-scale data center campuses in Oklahoma and the Mid-Atlantic region. In both cases, the land is owned or controlled by Comstock’s partners, while Comstock will use its experience in entitlements and large-scale real estate and infrastructure development to help advance the projects. Christopher Clemente, chairman and chief executive officer of Comstock, said the move marks the company’s entry into the fast-growing data center sector and reflects the strong demand being driven by AI and limited supply of data center assets.

DEVELOPMENT: Microsoft ends use of NDAs with local governments for data center plans. Microsoft said it will stop using nondisclosure agreements with local governments in connection with early-stage data center development. The company said it had previously used NDAs to protect sensitive commercial information, address security concerns, and manage regulatory and permitting processes, but now believes greater openness is more important for building trust and improving dialogue with communities.

SECURITY: Robot dog makers target data centers as new security market. Boston Dynamics and Ghost Robotics are pitching robot dogs as a new security and monitoring solution for data centers as AI drives a rapid wave of large campus development. Boston Dynamics’ Merry Frayne said interest from data center operators has surged over the past year, with customers using Spot not just for perimeter patrol but also for industrial inspection, site mapping, construction monitoring, and detecting issues like thermal anomalies, leaks, unusual sounds, or security risks inside facilities. Ghost Robotics’ Michael Subhan said its Vision 60 has already been deployed at a handful of data centers mainly for perimeter security, helping monitor fences, suspicious packages, and intrusions while feeding video back to control rooms.
