NEWS ROUNDUP

ACQUISITION: PointOne buys Virginia site for $42 million. PointOne has purchased the Dulles Design Center in Sterling, Virginia for $42 million. The 9.4-acre site has received conditional approval for the development of a two-story, 244,000-SF data center.

DEVELOPMENT: STACK announces 36MW data center. STACK Infrastructure has announced a new 36MW data center in Elk Grove Village, Illinois, one of the nation’s most in-demand and capacity-constrained data center markets. The 263,000-square-foot, two-story facility will be developed in partnership with Riverbend Industries, an affiliate of a STACK partner, and is specifically designed to support AI, machine learning, and cloud workloads. “As demand for digital infrastructure grows, we look forward to bringing new and innovative capacity to the Chicago region—one of North America’s most critical data center markets,” said Mike Casey, Chief Technology Officer of STACK Americas.

DEVELOPMENT: Plans filled for 1.4 million SF data center in Atlanta. A major new data center development is being proposed just outside of Atlanta. Universal Planning has submitted a Development of Regional Impact (DRI) application to the Georgia Department of Community Affairs for the Gregory Road Data Center campus in Covington. The proposed development outlines a 1.41 million-square-foot data center campus set across 213 acres, with an adjacent 307.5-acre residential component. While the exact number of buildings and total IT capacity were not disclosed, the application suggests the project will be developed in three phases, with an initial launch in 2027 and full build-out extending through 2036. The estimated investment is a staggering $5.7 billion.

DEVELOPMENT: Serverfarm files for two data centers in Houston. Serverfarm is expanding its footprint in Texas with plans to develop two large-scale data centers in Harris County, adjacent to facilities it acquired in 2024. The company recently filed applications with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation for both projects. The projects include:
HTX2 – a 565,000 sq. ft. development which carry a projected cost of $137 million. Construction is scheduled to run from July 2025 to July 2026.
CTX2 – a 438,000 sq. ft. facility, with an identical $137 million budget and timeline.
HKS is listed as the design firm for both developments.

PEOPLE MOVES: QTS CEO steps down. QTS has announced that Chad Williams, its CEO and Chairman, will officially step down on April 18, 2025, after more than two decades of leading and growing the company. Williams will return to his role as CEO of the Quality Group of Companies (QGC), the real estate and business services firm from which QTS was originally founded. Effective upon Williams’ departure, David Robey, Chief Operating Officer, and Tag Greason, Chief Growth Officer, have been appointed Co-CEOs to lead QTS through its next phase of global expansion.
