NEWS ROUNDUP

DEVELOPMENT: 133-acre data center approved in Georgia. Hampton, Georgia, has officially approved the city’s first data center campus, marking a significant step forward in Henry County’s emergence as a digital infrastructure player. The Hampton City Council granted a conditional use permit for a 133-acre site north of Georgia 20 at McDonough Street, part of the larger 900-acre Henderson Farms mixed-use development. The applicant, Southeast Property Holdings, plans to build three 195,000-SF buildings, along with a new on-site electrical substation.

DEVELOPMENT: Natural gas-powered data center proposed in California. Development plans for a new data center in San Jose’s Alviso district have been reactivated, with Terra Ventures proposing a cutting-edge facility on land once slated for a large entertainment complex. The updated proposal includes:

  • A three-story, 295,100-SF data center

  • A 167,400-SF energy supply hub

  • Future development of a greenhouse heated by the data center, growing produce for sale in an on-site community retail store

DEVELOPMENT: Pennsylvania demolishes coal plant to make way for data center. The site of Pennsylvania’s largest former coal-fired power plant is being reborn as a massive natural gas-powered data center campus in a $10 billion redevelopment aimed at meeting the soaring energy needs of AI and cloud computing. Homer City Development, the investment group behind the project, announced plans to transform the shuttered Homer City Generating Station—located about 50 miles east of Pittsburgh—into a 4.5GW data center complex powered by seven on-site gas turbines. Construction is expected to begin this year, with first power projected by 2027.

M&A: Northstar acquires Compass’ Quantum. Northstar Technologies Group has acquired Quantum—formerly Compass EdgePoint Systems—from Compass Datacenters, in a move that expands Northstar's modular infrastructure capabilities for data center and defense applications. “Northstar is an exceptional company with modular design and construction woven into its DNA, making the Quantum solution a seamless fit within their portfolio,” said Tony Grayson, general manager of Quantum.

PEOPLE MOVES: PowerHouse scales in the Southwest. PowerHouse has appointed Jeff Parsons as Senior Vice President of Development & Construction to lead operations in the Southwest region, particularly in Dallas and Reno.
