NEWS ROUNDUP

DEVELOPMENT: PhoenixNAP to break ground on second data center in Phoenix. PhoenixNAP is set to begin construction on a second data center in Phoenix, Arizona, while also expanding capacity at its current facility. The company will break ground on the PHX02 facility within the next four months. The 530,000-SF, 30MW data center will rise adjacent to PhoenixNAP’s existing site, with completion slated for Q4 2026. PHX02 will feature capacity for 44,000 racks with power densities up to 44kW, and could scale to 50MW with Bloom Energy natural gas-powered fuel cells.

PEOPLE MOVES: Google’s data center team gets new reinforcement. Joseph Wutkowski has joined Google's data center acquisitions and development team, where he will focus on securing land, power, and infrastructure to support the company's global network of data centers.

PEOPLE MOVES: STACK appoints new President. STACK Infrastructure has officially named Matt VanderZanden as the new President. VanderZanden joined STACK six years ago and most recently served as Chief Operating Officer, where he drove day-to-day execution and operational excellence across STACK’s growing portfolio. Prior to that, as Chief Strategy Officer, he played a central role in shaping the company’s site selection and development strategy across major U.S. markets.

PEOPLE MOVES: Equinix brings in new executive. Equinix has appointed Harmeen Mehta as Executive Vice President and Chief Digital and Innovation Officer (CDIO). In her new role, Mehta will report directly to Equinix CEO and President Adaire Fox-Martin and join the company’s executive staff.

LAW: West Virginia passes new data center development bill. In a decisive 88-12 vote, the West Virginia House of Delegates has passed House Bill 2014, an energy and economic development measure designed to attract large-scale data center projects to the state. Backed by Governor Patrick Morrisey, the bill now heads to the Senate, where it’s expected to face continued scrutiny over its potential impact on local authority, energy policy, and consumer electricity bills.
