NEWS ROUNDUP

DEVELOPMENT: Proposed $5 billion campus emerges in Georgia. A major data center campus could be developed in Columbus, Georgia, as the Development Authority of Columbus negotiates with Habitat Partners to secure a site for Project Ruby. Selvin Hollingsworth, chairman of the development authority, said the project would be one of the largest technology investments in the region’s history and could strengthen the local tax base and economic opportunity. The project is reportedly seeking a 600-megawatt power connection from Flint Energies, with phased delivery beginning in 2029.

DEVELOPMENT: LandBridge and PowerBridge sign agreement for Texas campus. LandBridge has entered into a lease development agreement with PowerBridge that could lead to the long-term lease of up to 3,400 acres in Reeves County, Texas, for a giga-scale data center campus supported by as much as 2 gigawatts of initial co-located power generation. Jason Long, CEO of LandBridge, said the deal advances the West Texas data center thesis and highlights the region’s advantages in land availability, natural gas, water, grid outlook, and permitting. Alex Hernandez, CEO of PowerBridge and former CEO of Cumulus Data and Talen Energy, said the company aims to provide hyperscale customers with pad-ready campuses that combine scalable power generation, electrical and civil infrastructure, and regional fiber connectivity.

PEOPLE MOVES: Prometheus Hyperscale names Bernard Looney Chairman and CEO. Prometheus Hyperscale has appointed Bernard Looney as chairman and chief executive officer as the company accelerates plans to meet rising AI-driven demand for compute capacity. Looney, who had served as non-executive chairman since 2024, succeeds founder Trenton Thornock, who will remain involved as an adviser and board member. Trevor Neilson, president of Prometheus Hyperscale, said Looney is the right leader for the company’s next chapter as its large U.S. data center projects move forward.

DEVELOPMENT: Maine moves toward first statewide pause on large data center projects. Maine is poised to become the first state to temporarily halt large new data center developments, with lawmakers backing a measure that would pause projects of 20 megawatts or more until November 2027. The proposal, which passed the state House with bipartisan support, reflects growing concern over how AI-driven data center demand could raise electricity costs, strain the power grid, and increase environmental pressure.
