NEWS ROUNDUP

DEVELOPMENT: 6.2-million-SF hub proposed in Georgia. A massive data center campus is being proposed just outside Atlanta, Georgia, with East Village Dothan filing a Development of Regional Impact application with the Georgia Department of State Affairs for the project, referred to as the Hickman Property. The proposed data center campus spans approximately 700 acres in Douglas County, with about 35 acres falling within Villa Rica’s city limits. Plans for the site include the construction of 11 data center buildings covering a total of 6.2 million square feet, as well as four warehouses totaling 66,000 square feet.

DEVELOPMENT: Diode Ventures files for 515-acre campus in Virginia. Diode Ventures is planning to develop a new data center campus outside Richmond, Virginia. The proposed project, known as the Roxbury Technology Park, spans 515 acres. Details on the number and capacity of the planned data centers have not been disclosed. However, construction of the Roxbury Technology Park is expected to take seven to ten years to complete.

DEVELOPMENT: Oppidan receives approval for 7-acre data center. The Reno City Council has approved the city's first evaporative cooling data center. The 7-acre facility, developed by Oppidan will use evaporative cooling technology, unlike two previously approved data centers in Reno that rely on air conditioning to cool computer servers. The decision was made unanimously despite objections from environmental activists who raised concerns about water usage in the desert region. Garrett Gordon, a lawyer representing Oppidan, stated that the facility would use approximately 8 acre-feet of water per year, the equivalent of eight single-family homes.

FINANCING: STACK lands $4 billion in financing. STACK Infrastructure has secured $4 billion in green financing to support the development of a new 1GW data center campus in Stafford, Virginia, along with expansions at its existing sites in Portland, Oregon, and Toronto, Canada. The new campus, known as the Stafford Technology Center, is planned as a multi-phase development spanning 5.5 million square feet at full build-out. STACK intends to construct up to 19 data centers, although filings with the county suggest the project could potentially include as many as 24 data centers and six 300MW substations provided by Dominion Energy.

ENERGY: Crusoe secures 4.5GW of power. Crusoe has secured 4.5GW of natural gas to power its planned AI data centers, potentially catering to clients such as Stargate. This capacity is being made available through a joint venture with San Francisco investment firm Engine No. 1, which purchased seven turbines built by GE Vernova alongside Chevron earlier this year. The turbines are expected to produce up to 4.5GW, with Crusoe gaining access to their entire output for data center operations. Chase Lochmiller, CEO and co-founder of Crusoe, noted the economic impact of the venture, stating, “Our accelerated development of AI data centers at scale will drive our country's economic growth, fuel advancements across every industry, and generate thousands of high-quality manufacturing and construction jobs.”
