NEWS ROUNDUP

LEASE SIGNED: Hut 8 signs second $9.8 billion AI data center lease in Texas. Hut 8 has signed a second 15-year lease worth $9.8 billion with an existing investment-grade customer, fully commercializing its 1-gigawatt Beacon Point data center campus in Texas. The new agreement covers 352 megawatts of IT capacity and doubles the unnamed tenant’s contracted footprint at the site to 704 megawatts.

DEVELOPMENT: Charlestown approves $105 million data center. Charlestown’s plan commission has approved a $105 million, 55,000-square-foot data center proposed by QLEVR. The 3-megawatt facility is expected to take 14 to 16 months to build and initially create roughly eight to 12 full-time jobs, with an economic development report projecting 20 permanent positions averaging about $76,266 annually once fully operational.

DEVELOPMENT: NNSA selects Amentum for AI data center. The National Nuclear Security Administration has selected Amentum to develop a co-located AI data center and on-site power generation project at the Savannah River National Laboratory site in South Carolina. The selection followed a competitive request for proposals and forms part of the Department of Energy’s broader effort to use federal sites for AI infrastructure paired with dedicated energy generation.

FIBER: Molex signs up to $6.29 billion data center fiber supply with Prysmian. Koch-owned Molex has signed a 10-year agreement worth up to $6.29 billion with Italian cable manufacturer Prysmian to secure optical fiber and cable supplies for data centers. The deal includes a roughly $630 million upfront payment and is part of Prysmian’s broader push to expand fiber capacity in the U.S. and Europe as data center demand accelerates. Prysmian said it plans to invest about $1.43 billion through 2031 to expand production, including doubling its U.S. fiber capacity and creating more than 1,000 jobs, around 600 of them in the U.S. CEO Massimo Battaini has also previously indicated that the company is considering a New York listing as it grows its U.S. footprint.
