NEWS ROUNDUP

DEVELOPMENT: Nexus Data Centers proposes 612MW campus in Texas. Nexus Data Centers has unveiled plans for a 612MW, natural gas–powered data center campus on a 2,000-acre site outside Hubbard, Texas. The company has already applied for permits to build on-site gas turbines and backup diesel generators, with the project expected to operate behind the meter. At a recent public meeting, CEO Ivan Van der Walt told residents the project would generate significant tax revenue and create hundreds of construction and long-term operational jobs.

DEVELOPMENT: Nvidia-leased site slated for data center. A vacant north San Jose office building is being repositioned into a major data center. Nvidia quietly leased the 97,800-square-foot property in late 2024. The building is owned by an affiliate of Menlo Equities. Exterior renovations have already been underway for months, and planning documents show data center construction will begin December 2026 with completion expected by July 2027. Land-use consultant Erik Schoennauer is assisting Menlo Equities on the project.

DEVELOPMENT: Meta to build $1B data center. Meta will invest more than $1 billion to develop a 700,000-square-foot data center campus in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, selecting Mortenson as general contractor. The facility—Meta’s 30th global data center and 26th in the U.S.—is expected to come online in 2027. “We’re thrilled to locate our newest data center in Beaver Dam,” said Brad Davis, Meta’s senior director of community and economic development, citing the region’s reliable energy grid, land availability and skilled labor base as key factors in the selection.

MARKET: Amazon boosts AI spending. Amazon is ramping up its AI efforts, announcing a $50 billion investment in 2026 to expand AI and supercomputing capabilities for government clients through AWS. The spending will add 1.3GW of data center capacity and enhance access to AI tools and large language models.
