NEWS ROUNDUP

PARTNERSHIP: Hypertec Cloud and Potentia announce partnership. Hypertec Cloud has partnered with Potentia to expand its operations in the US. This collaboration grants Hypertec Cloud access to over 480 MW of power across Potentia's US data centers, significantly enhancing its capacity to meet the growing demands of AI applications. Jonathan Ahdoot, President of Hypertec Cloud, emphasized the strategic importance of this partnership, stating that it enables the company to offer clients a combined data center capacity exceeding 600 MW in 2025. Rich McCrea, CEO of Potentia, noted that their data centers are designed to meet the rigorous demands of AI technology. He expressed confidence that the collaboration will enable Hypertec Cloud to support the next generation of AI applications with resilience and efficiency.

DEVELOPMENT: North Mankato to become home to a data center. North Mankato is among several cities in Minnesota being considered for the development of major data centers. City officials have acknowledged that while the area has been evaluated by developers over the years, there are currently no definitive plans in place. The city has entered into a non-disclosure agreement with a data center developer, limiting the information that can be shared publicly. If a project proceeds, it would be situated in the Northport Industrial Center on the northwest edge of the city.

DEVELOPMENT: NTT DATA to invest $10 billion in data center development by 2027. In a recent interview with Data Center Frontier, Doug Adams, President and CEO of Global Data Centers for NTT DATA, discussed the company's strategic response to the rapid growth in AI and its impact on data center infrastructure. He explained that NTT has decided to commit more than $10 billion between now and 2027 to the data center business.

DEVELOPMENT: CleanArc new data center campus prioritizes energy efficiency. CleanArc is developing a 600 MW data center campus in Caroline County, VA. The 650-acre facility, known as VA1, is set to deliver its first 200 MW of power by late 2026. The Virginia-based company is addressing the rising energy demands of hyperscale data centers and AI applications by designing an infrastructure that integrates solar and wind power, making it one of the greenest data centers in the region. CleanArc CEO Jim Trout is well-regarded for his expertise in creating scalable and sustainable solutions. Steve Irvin, managing director of 547 Energy, praised the CleanArc team’s innovation, stating, “Jim and the CleanArc Data Centers team have created a compelling company that is well-positioned to innovate in the data center market and provide hourly matching solutions to the world’s largest data center customers.” The project is backed by private equity firm Snowhawk LP, which has played a critical role in advancing CleanArc’s timeline. Brian McMullen, managing partner at Snowhawk, described the initiative as “a generational opportunity to invest in the cloud and AI architecture underpinning our increasingly digital society.”

PEOPLE MOVES: Sabey appoints new president. Sabey has announced the appointment of Tim Mirick as its new president, effective January 19, 2025. Mirick succeeds Rob Rockwood, who stepped down at the end of December after an eight-year tenure. Jeffrey Kanne, president and CEO of National Real Estate Advisors, expressed gratitude for Rockwood's leadership and welcomed Mirick to his new role.
