NEWS ROUNDUP

DEVELOPMENT: Equinix brings 20MW data center online. Equinix has energized a new 20MW, 82,000-square-foot data center in San Jose, California, marking the first facility delivered under a new power partnership between the City of San Jose and PG&E aimed at accelerating data center power delivery. The two-story site expands Equinix’s San Jose campus to 40MW after PG&E increased capacity at the Santa Teresa substation, with upgrades paid for by Equinix. Arquelle Shaw, Equinix Americas president, said the collaboration matters because reliable energy access is “a community investment as much as it is a technological one.”

DEVELOPMENT: Microsoft files plans for 15 additional data centers in Wisconsin. Microsoft has filed proposals to expand its Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin, operations with 15 additional data centers and related buildings totaling more than 8.7 million square feet across two campuses, representing a combined estimated value of over $13 billion.

DEVELOPMENT: Switch buys 176 acres near Las Vegas for $85.5 million. Switch has purchased 176 acres at Apex Industrial Park northeast of Las Vegas, paying $85.5 million for the site. Switch operates large “Prime” campuses in Las Vegas and Reno, Nevada; Austin, Texas; Grand Rapids, Michigan; and Atlanta, Georgia, and has recently emphasized denser AI-oriented facilities supported by proprietary liquid cooling. The company’s Las Vegas Core Campus is planned for up to 495MW at full build-out, and Switch is owned by DigitalBridge, which is slated to be acquired by SoftBank for $4 billion.

DEVELOPMENT: Applied Digital unveils 430MW campus in the Southern US. Applied Digital (APLD) is advancing its AI data center buildout with Delta Forge 1, a planned 430MW campus in the southern U.S. CEO Wes Cummins said the project is designed to integrate power, cooling, and operations for hyperscale AI demand and deliver “operational certainty” for customers and local communities. The initial phase will include two 150MW facilities on a 500-acre site, with Applied Digital not disclosing the exact location, and operations targeted for mid-2027.
