NEWS ROUNDUP

DEVELOPMENT: Microsoft eyes $1 billion Michigan data center. Microsoft plans to develop a data center on a 237-acre site in Michigan, with an estimated investment of $500 million to $1 billion. Michigan utility providers have said the project will not raise electricity rates, though questions remain around future power and water capacity.

DEVELOPMENT: Wilmington tables AWS data center. The Wilmington Planning Commission has again delayed approval of a proposed Amazon Web Services data center campus in Wilmington, Ohio, citing insufficient information on traffic, lighting, water pipelines, and PFAS use. AWS plans to invest $4 billion, pledging at least 100 permanent jobs, $25 million in infrastructure upgrades, and long-term economic impact.

DEVELOPMENT: Application filed for a 5 million SF campus in Georgia. A Development of Regional Impact application has been filed for the Wallace Jackson Data Center Campus, a proposed hyperscale development in Spalding County outside Atlanta. The applicant, Wallace Jackson, LLC, plans up to 4.99 million square feet across 10 buildings on 189 acres, with full build-out targeted by 2035.

DEVELOPMENT: Digital Realty seeks expansion of Dulles campus. Digital Realty, through its affiliate Digital Western Lands, has applied to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Norfolk District to modify an existing permit to expand its Digital Dulles campus in Sterling, Virginia. The proposal would add two new data center buildings, relocate and expand two substations, extend an overhead transmission easement, and update stormwater facilities, with additional impacts to wetlands and streams.
