NEWS ROUNDUP

FUNDRAISING: Ionic Digital raises $400 million at $2 billion valuation to expand AI infrastructure. Ionic Digital has raised $400 million in a funding round led by Attestor, Oaktree Capital Management, and Sachem Head Capital Management, with participation from Citadel and Weiss Asset Management. The financing values the company at a $2.0 billion pre-money equity valuation and will support the continued development of its AI and high-performance computing (HPC) digital infrastructure platform, along with other general corporate purposes. Andy Stewart, CEO of Ionic Digital, said the investment strengthens the company's capital base and supports the expansion of its digital infrastructure assets. J.P. Morgan and BTIG served as co-placement agents for the transaction, while White & Case LLP acted as legal counsel.

DEVELOPMENT: Hyperscale Data expands Michigan AI data center campus. Hyperscale Data has completed the acquisition of 48.5 acres of land, expanding its Michigan AI Data Center campus to approximately 83 acres. The acquisition more than doubles the size of the campus and provides additional space for future expansion while creating a natural buffer between the facility and surrounding properties. Milton "Todd" Ault III, Executive Chairman of Hyperscale Data, said the expanded site strengthens the company's long-term development plans and enhances its ability to grow service offerings following the recently announced master services agreement.

M&A: Digital Realty to acquire Columbia Capital. Digital Realty has agreed to acquire Columbia Capital, a digital infrastructure-focused venture capital firm, in a transaction valued at up to $775 million. The deal includes an initial payment of $485 million, with additional consideration tied to future performance milestones. Digital Realty said the acquisition will strengthen its Strategic Private Capital platform by expanding its investment capabilities across AI and digital infrastructure while providing additional access to private capital. The transaction is expected to close in the second half of 2026.

WORKFORCE: Google commits $3.6 million to launch data center workforce academy. Google has committed more than $3.6 million to Texas State Technical College (TSTC) to establish a new Mechanical, Electrical, and Information (MEI) Data Center Academy in Abilene, Texas. The investment will fund training facilities, scholarships, and program expansion through 2029, supporting workforce development for the growing data center industry. The academy will feature industry-standard equipment, including server racks, HVAC systems, and chillers, with full training programs expected to launch in 2027.
