NEWS ROUNDUP

DEVELOPMENT: Amazon announces $10 billion investment in North Carolina. Amazon will invest $10 billion to build a sprawling “innovation campus” in Richmond County, North Carolina. Amazon’s data center campus will house servers, storage drives, and networking gear, and will employ engineers, network and security specialists, and other technical talent. “This investment will position North Carolina as a hub for cutting-edge technology,” said David Zapolsky, Amazon’s chief global affairs and legal officer. “We look forward to partnering with state and local leaders to nurture the next generation of talent.”

DEVELOPMENT: Bitzero announces global expansion. Bitzero Blockchain is scaling up with the development and operation of four new data centers in North Dakota, Norway, and Finland—bringing its total capacity on track to exceed 1GW. Backed by investor Kevin O'Leary and led by President & CEO Mohammed Bakhashwain, Bitzero is tackling the global surge in compute demand. The company owns its land, power infrastructure, and equipment, giving it more control over energy costs, security, and margins—especially critical in a post-halving Bitcoin environment.

DEVELOPMENT: Digital Realty to develop $2 billion campus outside Atlanta. Digital Realty is expanding its Atlanta presence with a massive new data center development just south of the city. The company has filed a Development of Regional Impact (DRI) application to construct a two-building, 200MW campus in Forest Park, Clayton County, approximately nine miles from downtown Atlanta. The project—dubbed ATL15 and ATL16—will span 1.9 million square feet across 97 acres, marking a significant addition to Digital Realty’s growing Southeast U.S. footprint. The company is reportedly committing around $2 billion to the project.

ENERGY: Meta strikes 20-year deal for entire output of Illinois nuclear plant. Meta has signed a groundbreaking 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Constellation Energy to acquire the entire 1.1 gigawatts of electricity produced by the Clinton Clean Energy Center, a nuclear power plant in Clinton, Illinois. The agreement, which will take effect in 2027 once current state subsidies expire, ensures the continued operation—and potential expansion—of the 40-year-old Clinton facility. Constellation will increase the plant’s capacity by 30MW and is evaluating the addition of a second reactor, already pre-approved by federal regulators. While the electricity won’t power Meta’s data centers directly, the company will claim the zero-emission energy output as carbon offsets under its decarbonization strategy—effectively counterbalancing fossil-fuel use elsewhere.

PEOPLE MOVES: EdgeCore appoints new President. EdgeCore Digital Infrastructure has appointed Steve Conner as President. In this newly created role, Conner will oversee day-to-day operations, lead strategic execution, and drive growth across engineering, power provisioning, sales, and customer solutions. His appointment reflects EdgeCore’s ambition to scale rapidly and meet the surging demand for high-density data center infrastructure, especially from hyperscale and enterprise clients. “Steve is an exceptional executive leader… his expertise will enable EdgeCore to meet our customers' current and future requirements,” said Lee Kestler, CEO of EdgeCore.
