NEWS ROUNDUP

DEVELOPMENT: Turner Construction selected for Meta’s 1GW campus. Turner Construction is one of the contractors selected by Meta for its large-scale Lebanon Data Center project in Indiana, a campus that will deliver 1GW of capacity to support Meta’s core operations and growing artificial intelligence needs. Ben Kaplan, managing director at Turner Construction Company, said the scale of the project reflects rising demand for high-performance digital infrastructure and that Turner will work with Meta to deliver the facility safely, sustainably, and efficiently.

DEVELOPMENT: Monarch Energy advances potential $12 billion Illinois data center. Monarch Energy is nearing a deal to develop a major data center project in Rockford, Illinois, that could bring as much as $12 billion in investment to roughly 1,100 acres south of the Chicago Rockford International Airport. Ben Alingh, CEO and cofounder of Monarch Energy, said the company has spent three years working with local, state, and federal officials and is now negotiating with ComEd to secure large-scale power access and with unnamed data center operators targeting operations by 2028.

INVESTMENT: Blackstone launches public data center vehicle. Blackstone is launching a new publicly traded company focused on acquiring data centers, giving a broader group of investors a way to gain exposure to the fast-growing AI infrastructure market. The fund will initially target large institutional investors such as sovereign wealth funds before potentially expanding to raise tens of billions more from other investors, subject to regulatory approval. Rather than taking development risk on new projects, Blackstone plans to focus on stabilized, built-and-leased data centers.

SPACE: SpaceX seeks FCC approval for 1 million data center satellites. SpaceX has asked the Federal Communications Commission for permission to launch 1 million new satellites designed to function as space-based data centers for artificial intelligence, a proposal that would be 100 times larger than the company’s current Starlink constellation.
