NEWS ROUNDUP

FUNDRAISING: DataBank raises $250 million. DataBank has raised $250 million from private equity firm TJC and an additional $600 million in a secondary share offer. Raul K. Martynek, CEO of DataBank, emphasized the significance of this capital infusion, stating: “This new investment signals both confidence in our strategy and our proven ability to execute and scale.” Eion Hu, Partner at TJC, underscored the firm’s enthusiasm for the partnership: “We believe DataBank is uniquely positioned to capitalize on the sustained demand for reliable, scalable, and energy-efficient infrastructure in an increasingly data-driven world.” The latest investment follows a record-setting 18 months for DataBank, during which the company has raised over $5 billion to meet the explosive demand for AI workloads.

LEASE SIGNED: Mawson signs 20MW lease with AI customer. Mawson Infrastructure Group has signed a 20MW lease agreement with an unnamed AI customer for the deployment of Nvidia GPUs. The agreement also includes a Letter of Intent for a potential expansion to 144MW, though further details have not been disclosed. Rahul Mewawalla, CEO and President of Mawson Infrastructure, highlighted the company's rapid growth in digital colocation services.

DEVELOPMENT: Meta’s $1 billion data center is online. Meta has officially launched its Mesa Data Center, integrating it into the company’s global infrastructure to support its platforms and services worldwide. This milestone marks a major step forward for Meta’s presence in Arizona, having first broken ground on the facility in 2021. The $1 billion investment has already made a significant economic impact, employing an average of 2,000 skilled trade workers at peak construction and currently supporting more than 200 operational jobs.

DEVELOPMENT: Cedar Rapids approves QTS data center. The Cedar Rapids City Council has advanced two major data center projects. At its January 28 meeting, the council approved the first reading of an ordinance establishing an urban renewal area for the Google data center and finalized a development agreement for Quality Technology Services (QTS) to move forward with its data center campus. Both projects will be located within the Big Cedar Industrial Center, a 1,391-acre commercial park owned by Alliant Energy. The Google project is expected to total $576 million, while the QTS development will amount to at least $750 million, making it one of the largest economic development initiatives in Cedar Rapids history.

DEVELOPMENT: Data center could be built in Van Wert, Ohio. A major data center project is in the works for Van Wert, Ohio, as a 220-acre portion of the Mega Site is set to be developed, pending final agreements. While the name of the company behind the project remains undisclosed, contracts between The Marsh Foundation and the buyer have been signed, and an earnest money deposit has been sent and accepted. If completed, the data center campus is expected to feature five buildings, each spanning 250,000 square feet, making it a significant addition to the local economy. The facility would bring in 250 full-time jobs, with 35 employees per shift, along with additional outside contractors to manage property maintenance.
