NEWS ROUNDUP

ACQUISITION: Enovum acquires North Carolina manufacturing site for $53.2 million. Enovum Data Centers, a subsidiary of Bit Digital, has agreed to acquire a 95-acre site in Madison, North Carolina, from Unifi Manufacturing for $53.2 million. The purchase includes a 946,585 SF industrial building and certain equipment, with plans to repurpose the facility as a data center—marking Enovum’s first U.S. project. Enovum currently operates multiple data centers in Canada, including its flagship MTL1 in Montreal, and has two more facilities in development with advanced cooling technologies targeting high-density workloads.

EXPANSION: CoreWeave leases 260MW at Galaxy’s Texas campus. CoreWeave has exercised an option to lease an additional 260MW of IT capacity at Galaxy Digital’s Helios data center campus in Dickens County, Texas. Phase II capacity will be delivered throughout 2027. This follows CoreWeave’s initial lease of 133MW (200MW total) set for phased delivery through mid-2026. Galaxy, which acquired the 126,000 SF facility from Argo Blockchain in 2022 for $65 million, is converting the site from Bitcoin mining to AI and HPC use. Galaxy CEO Mike Novogratz emphasized the strategic diversification into AI infrastructure. CoreWeave, which now operates over 250,000 GPUs across 32 facilities, has exclusive rights to expand further at Helios and is one of several firms retrofitting crypto sites for AI workloads.

DEVELOPMENT: Soluna plans 100MW wind-powered data center in Texas. Soluna Holdings has announced plans for Project Ellen, a new 100MW modular data center colocated with a 145MW wind farm in South Texas. The facility will be developed in two 50MW phases and powered through a term sheet with an unnamed renewable energy partner. The project aims to support Bitcoin mining and AI workloads while utilizing underused green power. CEO John Belizaire emphasized the company’s commitment to sustainable infrastructure. Project Ellen joins Soluna’s growing Texas portfolio, which includes Project Rosa (187MW), multiple Dorothy sites, and the upcoming 166MW Project Kati. Soluna is targeting 698MW across nine sites, with a long-term development pipeline of up to 2.6GW.

LEASE: Amazon pauses data center leasing plans. Amazon Web Services has paused portions of its international data center colocation lease discussions, according to Wells Fargo analysts, signaling a more cautious stance amid broader economic concerns. The move aligns with recent comments from Microsoft, which also acknowledged slowing early-stage build-outs. While neither company is canceling signed deals, the shift reflects growing industry hesitance in light of President Trump’s proposed tariffs on imported tech equipment. AWS has not officially commented on the leasing slowdown.

PEOPLE MOVES: Aligned promotes new Chief Facility Operations Officer. Aligned Data Centers has promoted Billie Haggard from EVP of Operations to Chief Facility Operations Officer (CFOO), a newly created role overseeing global data center operations, personnel, and strategic infrastructure enhancements. With over 25 years of experience, Haggard will lead efforts to scale Aligned’s operations across its planned 5+ GW of capacity throughout the Americas, while integrating AI/ML and automation to boost reliability and efficiency. CEO Andrew Schaap praised Haggard’s leadership and expertise in mission-critical environments. Prior to joining Aligned, Haggard held roles at Microsoft, CoreSite, and Critical Solutions Group.
