NEWS ROUNDUP

DEVELOPMENT: Meta named as developer of $10B campus on nearly 3,000 acres in Kentucky. Meta has been named as the company behind a plan to develop nearly 3,000 acres in Mason County, Kentucky, into a data center campus, after the Mason County Fiscal Court passed a community benefits agreement with the company. Meta will invest $10 billion and put $115 million toward roads, water treatment plants and pipelines in exchange for a 40-year break on local property taxes, and rezoning documents point to six 718,740-SF buildings, three substations and up to 2.2GW of power.

LEGISLATION: Virginia senator proposes three-year statewide data center moratorium. Virginia state Sen. Russet Perry, who represents Loudoun County, has introduced Senate Bill 843, which would bar state agencies from approving data center planning applications for three years. Perry said the pause would give lawmakers time to write rules for an industry that has grown without guardrails while families face rising electric bills and the grid lacks the infrastructure to meet data center demand. Loudoun County is bringing in its own 12-month moratorium, and Gov. Abigail Spanberger hasn't backed a statewide pause but recently introduced a Data Center Accountability Framework.

LEASING: Carrier Connect leases 4MW, 184,555-SF data center near Atlanta. Carrier Connect Data Solutions has signed a 15.5-year lease on a fully built-out, 4MW data center in Alpharetta, Georgia, owned by Mapletree Industrial Trust and previously leased to General Electric. The two-story facility sits on 20 acres and has historically drawn 10MW of utility power, giving Carrier a possible path to expand. Carrier Connect CEO Mark Binns said the deal grows the company's capacity under management by more than 50%, to 11.7MW, with a customer-ready facility rather than a ground-up build.

ACQUISITION: DataBank buys leased data center near Minneapolis for $9.81M. DataBank has agreed to buy the 87,400-SF data center it leases in Eagan, Minnesota, from Mapletree Industrial Trust for $9.81 million in cash, exercising a purchase option in its lease. The single-story facility launched with 5MW of capacity, hosts 21 carriers and is one of four data centers DataBank operates around Minneapolis. DataBank CEO Raul K. Martynek said the deal is part of the company's strategy to own the real estate under its data centers.
