DEVELOPMENT: Developers withdraw rezoning request for Blakely data center. Developers have withdrawn a rezoning request for a proposed 1.5GW data center campus in Blakely, PA, near Scranton. The 121-acre parcel included 44 acres.

DEVELOPMENT: Sequitor Edge to develop data center in Kearney, Nebraska. Kearney City Council has approved the sale of 16 acres at the TechoNE Crossing technology park for a Sequitor Edge data center scheduled to open in 2027. CEO Daniel Fuhrman said the site’s proximity to NPPD’s energy infrastructure and fiber optic cabling makes it ideal for serving a regional customer base. Fuhrman co-founded Sequitor Edge in 2024 with Randy Mortensen.

DEVELOPMENT: Microsoft unveils $7B Wisconsin AI data center project. Microsoft has announced plans for what it calls “the world’s most powerful AI data center” in Wisconsin, a 315-acre campus projected to be 10x more powerful than today’s fastest supercomputer. Microsoft President Brad Smith highlighted the center’s sustainability efforts, including 90% recirculated liquid cooling with zero operational water waste, renewable energy matching, and a 250MW solar project.

ENERGY: Amazon to power Oregon data centers with Avangrid solar deal. Amazon has signed a new agreement with Avangrid to purchase all electricity from the Oregon Trail Solar project, a 57MW facility in Gilliam County set to open in 2027. The 400-acre site, equipped with over 100,000 panels, will generate enough power for 10,000 homes and employ several staff when operational.
