NEWS ROUNDUP

DEVELOPMENT: AWS files plans for 36-building, 1,100-acre campus in Pennsylvania. Amazon Web Services has filed a preliminary land development plan for a 36-building data center campus on 1,100 acres in Center and Blacklick townships in Indiana County, Pennsylvania. Power will come from a 4.5GW natural gas plant that Homer City Redevelopment is building on the site of the former 2GW Homer City coal plant, with more than 1GW going back to the grid. The campus is part of Amazon's pledge to invest about $20 billion in Pennsylvania across multiple campuses.

ACQUISITION: Blackstart Digital to acquire former IBM research campus in San Jose. Blackstart Digital is set to acquire IBM's former 35-acre research campus in San Jose, California and has filed for environmental review of planned renovations. The seven-building campus has more than 500,000 square feet, already hosts some data center space and is served by a 25MW substation that Blackstart plans to expand. The San Jose City Council rezoned the site as an industrial park zoning district, clearing the way for data center use, over opposition from the Sierra Club.

DEVELOPMENT: Applied Digital brings 75MW online at CoreWeave-leased campus. Applied Digital has brought another 75MW of critical IT load online at its data center campus in Ellendale, North Dakota, completing the second phase of the campus's second building with three 25MW data halls. The finished 150MW building brings the campus to 250MW, with 400MW planned at full build-out, and all of the capacity is leased to CoreWeave.

LEGISLATION: Warren County, Ohio, enacts six-month data center moratorium. Warren County's commissioners in Ohio have unanimously approved a moratorium of at least six months on data center development in areas under county control. The pause gives the county time to review local and state zoning codes and to wait for a water impact study by the Ohio EPA and the Ohio-Kentucky-Indiana Regional Council of Governments. Clearcreek and Hamilton townships already have yearlong moratoriums.
