NEWS ROUNDUP

DEVELOPMENT: Hut 8 to add 1.5GW of US capacity. Hut 8 announced plans to develop four new U.S. sites totaling 1,530 MW, transitioning that capacity from “under exclusivity” to “under development.” Upon completion, Hut 8’s total capacity across 19 sites will exceed 2.5 GW. CEO Asher Genoot said the expansion marks a key milestone in Hut 8’s growth.

DEVELOPMENT: Google to invest $9 billion in Virginia. Google will invest $9 billion in Virginia by 2026 to expand its data center footprint, including a new site in Chesterfield County and growth at existing campuses in Loudoun and Prince William Counties. The Chesterfield project, dubbed “Project Peanut,” will be developed near Meadowville Technology Park on a 300-acre site acquired in 2020.

JOINT VENTURE: Newmark advises on $4 billion JV. Newmark Group has advised Blue Owl Capital, Chirisa Technology Parks, and Machine Investment Group in a $4 billion joint venture to develop a next-generation AI data center campus in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. A Newmark team led by Andrew Warin, Josh King, Adam Doneger, and Brent Mayo, with oversight from Jordan Roeschlaub and Doug Harmon, structured the deal.

ENERGY: Caterpillar and Hunt Energy partner on 1GW data center power rollout. Caterpillar and Hunt Energy have entered a long-term strategic agreement to deliver up to 1GW of power infrastructure across North America, targeting hyperscale and distributed data operations. Caterpillar will provide a full suite of energy technologies—including natural gas and diesel generators, turbines, switchgear, and monitoring systems—while Hunt will lead development, financing, and execution. “Starting in Texas, we’re laying the foundation for a new era of data center power infrastructure,” said Hunt Energy CEO Hunter Hunt.
